  1. Check the Fuel System
    • Ensure fuel meets ISO/SAE standards (clean, uncontaminated)
    • Verify fuel level and confirm the gauge is working
    • Inspect the tank for debris and make sure the vent is clear
  2. Test the Electrical System
    • Check battery voltage (must be at least 12.6V for standard systems or 24V for heavy-duty engines)
  3. Inspect Additional Components
    • Examine glow plugs or block heater (if equipped)
    • Look for air intake blockages
    • Check fuel filter condition

For LOVOL engines: Always use genuine replacement parts and refer to your operator’s manual for model-specific requirements.

Common power loss causes and solutions:

  1. Fuel Quality Verification
    • Confirm fuel grade matches manufacturer specifications
    • Test for contamination or degraded fuel quality
  2. Fuel System Inspection
    Flow Issues:
    • Check for kinked/damaged supply/return lines
    • Verify proper line diameter (avoid undersized tubing)
    • Ensure all connections are airtight
    Contamination:
    • Drain and inspect tank for sediment/water
    • Clean oil pan and replace clogged strainers
    Supply Problems:
    • Test fuel transfer pump output pressure
    • Verify fuel metering unit operation
    • Check for air leaks in delivery system
  3. Recommended Maintenance
    • For LOVOL engines: Always use OEM-approved fuel filters
    • Follow prescribed fuel system bleeding procedures

Technical Note: Power loss occurring with black smoke typically indicates different issues than power loss with clean exhaust - consult your service manual for symptom-specific diagnostics.

Key Checks to Reduce Oil Consumption

  1. External Leak Inspection
    • Thoroughly examine engine surfaces for oil seepage
    • Tighten all screws, pipe plugs, and connection joints
    • Replace hardened or damaged gaskets/seals
  2. Crankcase Ventilation System
    • Check PCV valve operation and hose connections
    • Clean clogged breather filters/passages
    • Verify proper crankcase pressure levels
  3. Oil Level Verification
    • Check dipstick on level ground after engine cools
    • Ensure oil level remains between MIN/MAX marks
    • Avoid overfilling above maximum line
