Real-World Service Case: Lovol TE404 Clutch Adjustment & Gear-Shift Recovery

1. Case Overview

A Lovol TE404 wheeled tractor (rated power 29.4 kW, operating mass 1,950 kg) was reported by an Australian family leisure-farm customer during earth-moving operations. The machine had accumulated only 37 working hours when the fault occurred. The customer contacted Lovol Australia and requested urgent on-site technical support.

Customer-Reported Symptom

While driving in the field, the tractor could engage only 1st gear and would not shift into any higher gear. Normal farm work could not be completed, and the machine was effectively out of service.

2. On-Site Diagnosis

Our field service technician attended the customer's farm and carried out a systematic, safety-first inspection:

· Step 1 — Fit the front-loader safety support before any disassembly.

· Step 2 — Remove the front-loader boom and the fixing bolts on the clutch inspection-cover side.

· Step 3 — Open the clutch-side inspection window to observe the internal clutch condition.

Through the inspection window, the technician found that the main clutch pressure fingers were in full contact with the release bearing with zero working clearance. Even after the release bearing was adjusted to its extreme right-hand position, no clearance could be obtained. This condition indicated minor heat damage (slight burning) on the clutch friction plate, which had caused the clutch to remain partially engaged and prevented gear selection.

3. Repair & Adjustment Solution

Based on the diagnosis, the following corrective action was performed:

· Action 1 — Adjust the main-clutch pressure-finger nuts to restore the clearance between the pressure fingers and the release bearing to the factory-specified 2–3 mm.

· Action 2 — Calibrate all three main-clutch pressure fingers to the same horizontal plane, ensuring even force distribution across the clutch assembly.

· Action 3 — Reinstall all removed components in reverse order.

· Action 4 — Conduct an on-site road test and field working test to verify the repair.

4. Final Result

After adjustment and reassembly, the gear-shift function was fully restored. The tractor now shifts smoothly through all gears and has returned to regular earth-moving duty on the customer's farm. The case was closed on-site with no further parts replacement required.
